What is Pressotherapy?

Pressotherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses controlled air pressure to support the lymphatic and circulatory systems. The treatment is delivered through a specialised garment with multiple compartments that inflate in rhythmic, wave-like motions, gently compressing the body to encourage lymphatic flow.

Where manual lymphatic drainage massage relies on a therapist's hands to apply gentle pressure, pressotherapy provides automated, uniform compression across targeted areas. This makes it consistent and comfortable, and means a session can be slotted in around your day.

How Pressotherapy works

During a session, the inflatable compartments in the garment fill in sequence, applying directional pressure that mimics the principles of manual lymphatic drainage massage. The rhythmic compression supports lymphatic flow and venous return, the natural processes by which the body moves fluid through tissue and back into circulation.

Body Brilliant uses the Lympha Press and Ballancer Pro systems. These are the most clinically evidenced compression therapy devices on the market, with over 20 peer-reviewed publications between them. Each session lasts around 30 to 45 minutes. You lie comfortably on a treatment bed in the garment and can read, work or rest.

Who Pressotherapy is for:

Athletes and active people seeking recovery.

Pressotherapy is widely used in sports recovery contexts to support post-exercise recovery and lymphatic flow. Many of our clients incorporate pressotherapy into their training cycle, particularly after high-volume or high-intensity weeks.

Recovering from surgery or extended periods of immobility

Post-surgical recovery, post-flight swelling and post-event fatigue all involve fluid retention and reduced lymphatic flow. Pressotherapy supports lymphatic and circulatory function in a comfortable, non-invasive session.

Clients seeking water retention or lymphatic drainage support.

Where manual lymphatic drainage massage is not practical, accessible or sufficient, pressotherapy offers an automated, consistent alternative. Our clinical team will assess whether it is appropriate for your needs and refer onwards if not.

What to Expect From Your Pressotherapy Treatment

  • 1. Consultation and Suit Fitting

On your first visit, we discuss your goals and any relevant medical history. Our therapist fits the appropriate compression garment - typically full leg, full body, or arm, depending on the area to be treated.

  • 2. Preparation

You lie comfortably on a treatment bed in the garment. The session takes place in a private, quiet treatment room. Most clients wear loose, comfortable clothing or a clinic gown.

  • 3. Treatment

The session runs for around 30 to 45 minutes. The compartments inflate and deflate in a programmed sequence. The pressure is firm but comfortable, and can be adjusted during the session if needed.

  • 4. Aftercare

We recommend hydration after each session. For clients on a course of pressotherapy, we discuss frequency and how to integrate it with other training, treatment or recovery work.
